North Georgia SPCA and Whiskers Project, two local nonprofit animal welfare groups, have teamed up to help adoptable cats seven years or older find new homes through adoption. Some of these loving cats might be handicapped or in need of medical attention. Unfortunately, there are no local animal rescue groups in the community that accept mature and senior cats. Adoptions must be approved to qualified homes. They will reside in a loving home setting.
Currently, the North Georgia SPCA, under the auspices of the “Langman 9 Lives Senior Center, Inc.,” is remodeling a home to house these displaced cats. At the same time, Whiskers Project, is designing a new thrift store “Lucky Kat Korner.” The proceeds will benefit “9 Lives,” as well as, the spay neuter programs for both groups.

The Lucky Kat Korner Thrift Store is accepting fixture donations, as well as, furniture, bookcases, tables and the like. Volunteers are needed for shifts during open hours. To donate, or for more information, on the thrift store, call 1-888-872-9330.  Whiskers, POB 575 Blairsville, Ga., 30514.

For more information on 9 Lives Senior Center and to donate, call 706-745-7722. 9 Lives, POB 781 Young Harris, Ga., 30582. A Grand Opening announcement will be at a later date.
