FIV+ Cats are loving companions and need homes too!
FIV, feline immunodeficiency virus, is a common cat virus that is misunderstood by many. A positive test is not a death sentence as some might think. FIV should not be confused with Feline Leukemia. They are two distinctly different viruses. With proper diet, cats with FIV can live for many happy years. FIV belongs to the same group of viruses as HIV but FIV cannot be transmitted to humans.
Adopting and caring for an FIV+ cat can bring as much love and affection as any other cat. Many FIV+ cats enjoy a normal life with no health problems. The virus effects the immune system and depletes white blood cells which can lower the cat’s ability to fight off other infections. FIV is a slow acting virus however and a cat may live with no health issues associated from it. A vigilant owner who treats secondary infections can assist a FIV+ cat to live a long life.
FIV+ cats deserve a chance at a happy life. It is hard to find homes for them because of the misconceptions associated with this disease. If would like to help BW or Graceson, they would be so happy to spend their lives with a caring and loving owner. Supplements to their diet are inexpensive and can include L-Lysine and Vitamins C & E, which builds immune system strength. Our Vet has determined that both BW and Graceson are healthy and can be adopted. They should each live a long happy life. For more info on BW & Graceson go to our Adoption Information page.
